Brighton Fashion Week is the UK’s only sustainable and ethically focused fashion week. Their purpose is to show how sustainable fashion is taking off, and that is just as chic – but more visionary – than other means of fashion production.
As the topic of sustainability grows ever more popular and the practice becomes more prevalent in the fashion industry, many designers are embracing this rising curve in the fashion world. Last year, BFW’s media/PR audience reach was over 3.5million, event attendance counted 2000+ and, in the last five years, they have showcased collections from over 600 new designers; all passionate about changing global attitudes to fashion.
Brighton Fashion Week events aim to create systemic change in consumer and industry’s attitudes. It achieves this through its workshops that educate and demonstrate how to re-invent the way we design garments, rethink how we consume and redefine what is possible through valuing and renewing existing materials. Improved sustainable practices are essential to the future of the fashion industry and it requires changes in design practice to achieve this.
Brighton Fashion Week are hosting a number of events 15th-17th October, partnered with the WFTO, WRAP, The Ethical Fashion Forum and Cancer Research UK to host a week of sustainable and ethically-focused catwalk shows, movie screenings, panel discussions and fringe events; including a talk with Fashion Revolution founder Orsola de Castro and Sublime editors Laura and Damian Santamaria judging the Showreel competition.
