The collection’s name, CrOp, is short for ‘creative opportunities’ something that the designer is developing by focusing on socially responsible manufacturing practices and charitable partnerships. CrOp is fully produced at David Peck factory in Houston, Texas. Started in 2010 with just a few trial pieces, David’s distinct prints and vibrant hues have become signature of his collections.
Already worn by celebrities such as Kate Bosworth and Taylor Swift, David Peck continues to design with sustainability in mind, and hopes to see others like Gwyneth Paltrow in his garments. ‘I’ve always thought of her as exuding simplicity and elegance,’ he mentioned in our interview, ‘if she wore my design, that would not only make me very, very happy, it would also be a validation and a stamp of approval of what I stand for.’
David’s seasonal inspiration is drawn from the causes he supports and his dedication to local manufacturing, meaningful job creation and minimal environmental impact, results in garments of superior quality made with care. His commitment to sustainability is reflected in the low impact printing methods he choses and by his incorporation of organic, fair-trade and natural fibers into the collection wherever possible.
David’s Spring/Summer 2013 collection comprises of soft and classic pieces, as well as garments with bold colors and patterns. David Peck concentrated on tops, skirts, and dresses. The first few looks were designed with a map print in beige and black. In the designer’s words, ‘They were inspired by Paris in the 1860s as I read about the city in real and fictionalised form in books and maps’, he tells us. His second set of looks introduced a fish pattern that was paired with vibrant green and blue fabrics. The last set of looks that walked down the runway incorporated a colorful print that David Peck said was inspired by Origami. He ‘loved the encyclopedia of Origami and Papercraft.’
Overall, this collection is fun and timeless, as David Peck designs quality, structured garments meant to have for a long time. His dedication to using sustainable materials that are ‘made by hand and use no electricity’ has resulted in beautiful and classic pieces that set a new landmark for sustainable fashion.
