In every corner, Atzaró agroturismo hotel whispers the language of love: a love of nature, space, unforgettable luxury. It has reminded me that hotels don’t need to be shiny to be beautiful. They have to have a heart. They have to WANT to heal us.
Atzaró is more than a hotel; It is a testament to the power of nature. It’s a place where history and healing intertwine seamlessly offering guests the chance to truly rest, refuel and reset.
I’ve been fortunate to stay in some of the finest hotels, each offering its own unique brand of luxury. Yet, there’s one place that has touched my soul like no other. None have cast a spell so enchanting that I am left mesmerised for days. Never before have I returned home, only to find myself secretly plotting my escape.
For those of you who haven’t been to this part of the world. Ibiza is one of the Balearic Islands, an archipelago in the western Mediterranean Sea. The most common way to reach Ibiza is by flying and Ibiza Airport is well-connected to various international airports, and many major airlines operate direct flights during the tourist season.
Atzaró Agroturismo Hotel is nestled in the northeast region of the island, between San Lorenzo and Santa Eularia. Inland and out of earshot of the clublands – but only a 20 minute taxi to them, it’s a 10-minute drive from Cala Llenya, Cala Nova and some other heavenly beaches on the northeast coast of the island. Plus, you’re only 30 minutes from the airport. Easy.
There is a rich history to the thirteen hectare estate dating back several centuries. The property was originally a traditional farmhouse, or “finca,” built over 300 years ago. The finca which is still owned and run by the same family was initially a working farm, reflecting the rural and agrarian lifestyle of Ibiza. Víctor Guasch, owner of Atzaró, was born in the very finca now at the heart of the hotel, rich with his grandparents’ legacy.
In the late 20th century, Atzaró underwent a transformative journey. The property was carefully restored and repurposed to become what it is today – a luxurious agrotourism hotel. The restoration project aimed to preserve the authenticity of the original Ibicenco architecture while infusing modern amenities and design elements, which it does effortlessly.
On arrival you are immediately captivated by the understated touches of natural elegance, evident in every meticulous detail. This same sense of style extends gracefully to the rooms, restaurants, the serene open lounges, and the opulent gardens adorned with lavish day beds.
Gazing across the pool, a pagoda frames the entrance to Atzaró’s Spa. Ah the spa! The Spa offers an array of indulgences, including massage, facials, sauna, hammam, and a fully equipped gym and 43 metre long swimming pool. Regular classes in Yoga and various other wellness activities are also available. For hotel guests, all classes are complimentary, and the general public can partake in these rejuvenating experiences for a small fee.
In 2019 the hotel launched its organic vegetable garden—an expansive three-hectare haven overflowing with nature’s bounty. Tree-lined pathways guide you through a vibrant array of fruits, vegetables, and herbs, leading to a fragrant garden adorned with climbing roses, cascading bougainvillea, and jasmine. Beyond the ornamental pond lies a rustic kitchen with a shaded bar and, finally, a spacious grass area framed by palm trees—the ideal spot for a fairy tale wedding.
This bountiful garden serves as the source for organic produce, including passion fruit, figs, apples, avocados, papayas, lemons, limes, oranges, pomegranates, lettuce, cucumbers, tomatoes, and more for the hotel’s restaurants. It operates as a fully sustainable ecosystem, drawing water from Atzaro’s wells and generating nearly all of its electricity through 200 on-site solar panels.
I had the privilege of being treated to the Atzaró Integration Massage at the spa — a fusion of Swedish, Balinese, and Thai techniques and oils rich with calming lavender and chamomile. I swear the experience brought on a metamorphosis.
The food is just as dreamy as the surroundings too – sweet potato and cashew cream salad, beef tenderloin with sweet potato gratin, followed by a warm traditional apple tart. All ingredients are hand-picked from the surrounding garden and served by the warmest and friendliest staff.
Ibiza holds something very special, which is hard to describe. But I can attest to experiencing a unique healing energy at Atzaró Agroturismo Hotel while I was there. Like falling in love for the first time, every passing moment within Atzaró became a deliberate endeavour to slow down time. Pure magic.
