Artist Dawn Cole has reproduced a 1930s telephone directory containing 300 blank pages, each with a penny artwork, one for each story collected.

A Penny For Your Thoughts would like YOU to write YOUR favourite story about using a telephone box or a telephone, whether happy or sad, funny or painful, in exchange for a penny artwork to tear out from YOUR page.  Please do not forget to leave your first name and date your entry.

The phone book is part of an ongoing art intervention by Platform-7 in a K2 grade II listed red telephone box located outside 24-26 Bedford Row, Holborn, WC1R 4EB.

For decades the telephone box was central to many communities. As communication technology has evolved away from sharing devices towards personal ownership the Innovation Box questions whether this is changing, or has changed, society as a whole?

Artists may respond to some of the anecdotes over the coming months and all stories will be transcribed and uploaded online. Following the project conclusion the phone book will become part of the BT phone directory archive.

Platform-7 is a live abstract art events network that explores social issues in public spaces.

Dawn Cole is a Kent based artist who uses archives as a starting point. Working mainly in print and textiles Cole creates work with a strong narrative thread that develops as a result of extensive research and experimentation. In 2011, Cole won the V&A prize and has work in both public and private collections and exhibits internationally.
