The world expects several decades of growing supplies of generally affordable oil. Every corporate and ministerial plan is geared to this assumption. Beyond the peak of global oil production the world will face shrinking supplies of increasingly expensive oil. That is a manageable proposition if the peak is several decades away. It is a major problem if the peak is imminent.
