This concept is explored in Waste Land, an award-winning documentary directed by Lucy Walker and co-directed by João Jardim and Karen Harley, with photography by Dudu Miranda, which gives a fascinating glimpse into life among the catadores (garbage pickers) of Jardim Gramacho, one of the world’s largest open landfill sites situated on the outskirts of Rio de Janeiro.
